Job description

Caregiving for an 88-year-old gentleman who is 186 cm tall and weighs 78 kg. He has dementia and significantly impaired hearing. However, he is sociable, open, and communicative. He recognizes his relatives and is oriented in his home environment, but sometimes forgets names, repeats questions, and has impaired short-term memory. He refuses hearing aids, so it is necessary to speak to him louder, clearly, and face-to-face. The gentleman is independently mobile and manages personal hygiene, dressing, eating, and using the toilet without assistance. However, he needs reminders to change clothes, preparation of clothing, and supervision of adequate fluid intake and regular medication, which is pre-prepared. The job also involves organizing appointments, accompanying him to the doctor as agreed with the family, and handling routine matters. The primary duties include cooking, shopping, cleaning, laundry, and providing companionship to the senior. Shopping is done in agreement with the family. It is important to maintain a regular daily routine and engage in joint activities. The gentleman enjoys playing the board game Rummikub daily and appreciates conversations and company. Night care is not required. The family is available. The gentleman lives in a spacious terrace apartment with an area of approximately 150 m² in Geislingen an der Steige. The apartment has a separate entrance, accessed via approximately 70 outdoor steps. Internet is available. Free time is arranged in agreement with the family.

Frequently asked questions - Carers

Do you charge fees?

You don't pay our employment agency anything at all. We believe it is not right to charge people money in order to enable them to work, and so we offer assistance in finding job positions completely free of charge.

Do I have to be self-employed?

Most job positions in Germany are based on Slovak/Czech trade licenses, though employment contracts are possible with some families. In Switzerland, work is conducted under Swiss employment contracts.

Do I need a caregiving course to work as a caregiver?

A caregiving course is not required for families in Germany, but you need at least some experience of caring at home. In Switzerland, most families require a caregiving course.

How long will it take you to find me a family?

Finding a family is an individual matter for every candidate, so there is no exact time frame for when we will find you a family that suits you both. In some cases we can arrange a job within a few hours, at other times the wait is a few days. For families in Switzerland, the wait can stretch to a month because of high demand. We place candidates fastest in the summer months, June – August, and more slowly from the end of January to the end of March.

Can you help me travel? Who pays for the trip?

If you wish, we will organise your transport. We have worked for many years with transport companies that our caregivers are happy to use again and again. You can of course choose another way of travelling that you prefer. The caregiver pays for the journey herself and the family contributes to it – €180 – 300 in Germany, CHF 380 – 400 in Switzerland, depending on the offer. If you do not have the cash to travel to Germany, we can pay the fare for you and deduct it from your pay afterwards.

How long are rotations usually?

In Germany a standard assignment lasts 4 – 6 weeks, in Switzerland 2 – 3 months. Replacement assignments are shorter.

What is the salary and what does it depend on?

In Germany the pay is up to €3 500 a month as a self-employed caregiver – the exact amount is stated in each offer. It depends on your German, the client’s state of health and whether you care for one person or a married couple. In Switzerland the pay is up to CHF 3 500 net a month on a Swiss employment contract.

What level of German do I need to have for a carer job?

In Germany, families most often require intermediate to good German; some are happy with basic German and/or want another language, such as Czech, Russian or Bulgarian. Families in Switzerland require good German, although a solid intermediate level is sometimes enough.

Do you also offer work for male carers?

Yes, we successfully place male caregivers with families too.
