Job description

For a position in Munich, a caregiver is sought for an 84-year-old lady (164 cm, 59 kg) who lives alone in a family house. The caregiver will have access to a 30 m² guest room with a private balcony and internet, while the bathroom is currently being renovated. The lady is recovering from a stroke since early June, suffers from mild dementia (she is partially confused and occasionally says things that do not correspond to reality, but communication is well possible), hemiparesis of the leg, carpal tunnel syndrome, and has a history of a broken left arm (she is right-handed). She also experiences occasional incontinence (panties) and has a pressure sore that is currently healing, cared for by an outpatient nursing service. She uses a wheelchair and requires partial assistance with dressing, undressing, personal hygiene, eating, and toileting, with light support needed for lifting by offering a hand, and the client cooperates. Available equipment includes a nursing bed, wheelchair, shower chair, and toilet chair. Night service is required once per night, usually for accompanying to the toilet or changing a diaper. The caregiver's duties will include general care as well as managing the household—shopping, cooking, cleaning, and laundry. Groceries are approximately 1 km away (about 10 – 15 minutes on foot), and a bicycle is available. The lady always enjoyed cooking and baking and was active in the garden, so it is advisable to support her in these activities. A woman with a good knowledge of German is sought, smoking is allowed only outside the apartment, and non-smokers are preferred. A driver's license is not required. The caregiver can arrange free time by the hour, and the lady may attend a day care center.

Frequently asked questions - Carers

Do you charge fees?

You don't pay our employment agency anything at all. We believe it is not right to charge people money in order to enable them to work, and so we offer assistance in finding job positions completely free of charge.

Do I have to be self-employed?

Most job positions in Germany are based on Slovak/Czech trade licenses, though employment contracts are possible with some families. In Switzerland, work is conducted under Swiss employment contracts.

Do I need a caregiving course to work as a caregiver?

A caregiving course is not required for families in Germany, but you need at least some experience of caring at home. In Switzerland, most families require a caregiving course.

How long will it take you to find me a family?

Finding a family is an individual matter for every candidate, so there is no exact time frame for when we will find you a family that suits you both. In some cases we can arrange a job within a few hours, at other times the wait is a few days. For families in Switzerland, the wait can stretch to a month because of high demand. We place candidates fastest in the summer months, June – August, and more slowly from the end of January to the end of March.

Can you help me travel? Who pays for the trip?

If you wish, we will organise your transport. We have worked for many years with transport companies that our caregivers are happy to use again and again. You can of course choose another way of travelling that you prefer. The caregiver pays for the journey herself and the family contributes to it – €180 – 300 in Germany, CHF 380 – 400 in Switzerland, depending on the offer. If you do not have the cash to travel to Germany, we can pay the fare for you and deduct it from your pay afterwards.

How long are rotations usually?

In Germany a standard assignment lasts 4 – 6 weeks, in Switzerland 2 – 3 months. Replacement assignments are shorter.

What is the salary and what does it depend on?

In Germany the pay is up to €3 500 a month as a self-employed caregiver – the exact amount is stated in each offer. It depends on your German, the client’s state of health and whether you care for one person or a married couple. In Switzerland the pay is up to CHF 3 500 net a month on a Swiss employment contract.

What level of German do I need to have for a carer job?

In Germany, families most often require intermediate to good German; some are happy with basic German and/or want another language, such as Czech, Russian or Bulgarian. Families in Switzerland require good German, although a solid intermediate level is sometimes enough.

Do you also offer work for male carers?

Yes, we successfully place male caregivers with families too.
